SUN DAMAGE

Sun damage (UV Radiation) is responsible for photo aging, which is skin damage due to excessive or unprotected sun exposure. Sun damage is characterized by wrinkles, sun spots; diffuse redness, coarse texture and dry / dehydrated skin.

Accumulative sun damage results in cellular dysfunction and a decrease in the skin’s ability to repair itself. The breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers combined with a reduction in new collagen formation causing the skin to become loose, wrinkled, and leathery. Cellular DNA can become mutated resulting in pigment changes, skin cancers and other lesions.

The treatment strategy for sun damaged skin includes restoring the skin barrier, stimulation of collagen, elastin and GAG’s, reducing pigment clumping, improving the repair response and boosting UV protection, normalizing or replacing damaged Melanocytes (pigment cells) and calming inflammation.
